Bournemouth Pier, Dorset
This image is one of my favourite shots of Bournemouth Pier, taken one winters evening as the sunset was fading away into twilight.
The pier is the star of this image, the central focus. The composition leads the eye from the twilight into the end of the sunset. The clear blue sky to the left is complimented by the colours of the sunset both in the sky and reflected off the water, as well as the lights from the pier itself.
This photograph is a single image, taken on my EOS 5D Mark 1 with 24-105mm F4L lens. The exposure was ¼ second at F4 and a sensor sensitivity of 400 ISO. This is quite a long exposure for a hand held shot. I managed to keep the image sharp by using a well-practised technique I have learnt. I could have increased the ISO setting but wanted to maximise the quality of the image without excessive noise. I was confident that I could achieve a sharp image with that shutter speed using the equipment at my disposal.
The RAW image was imported into Adobe Lightroom, where I carried out basic corrections to white balance, sharpening, lens profile, vibrance and saturation. Whilst this sounds like a lot of editing it was only minor adjustments, as I wanted to produce a high quality but natural image. This image is a low resolution Jpeg version of the original RAW file.
This image was used as part of my submission for membership of the British Institute of Professional Photographers.

More about my work as a Professional Photographer in Bournemouth, Poole, Sandbanks and Dorset.
On my commercial shoots I don’t take thousands of images, just what the brief requires, so my clients are not paying for me to sort and edit hundreds of images that they do not want. Once back in my office I quickly produce a selection of images that satisfy the brief. I usually only send 20-30 images to the client which 99 times out of 100 fully satisfy the brief.
I only ever use Canon professional cameras and lenses, and do all my own digital processing using mainly Adobe software, with some other specialist software to achieve certain effects. For most jobs I have a draft set of images ready within 72 hours of the shoot - quicker if required.
Professional Photography Costs
I usually work on a daily or half daily rate, but can work on an hourly basis or fixed price, whichever is preferred. My price includes everything up to and including the production of an agreed set of copyright free images in whatever electronic format is required.
